Art colleges and art programs within a university setting require 15-20 portfolio pieces from High school applicants. Regardless of what your art major will be the art schools all require a portfolio consisting of black and white observation pieces drawn from life; including a self-portrait, a still life, a pair of shoes or a room interior are among some of the requirements. You are also going to work in color with soft, oil pastels and colored pencils. Paint with watercolors, tempera paint, acrylic, and oil paint. You will create artwork from your imagination to show the level of your creativity and technical mastery.

Please note that if you are one of the thousands of art students all applying to the same art school, YOUR work needs to stand out from others, both technically and foremost creatively. You need to make a time commitment and be consistent in preparation.
